Resources: food is the cheap one
The shop sells each resource in two pack sizes, which makes the price per million easy to compare:

Food costs 500 gems per million in the small pack. Gold costs 5,000, which is 10 times as much. The large pack of each is a little cheaper per million, so if you are buying a resource anyway, the large pack saves gems.
